A Message from Our Chair
I am thrilled to be Chairing the 2010 Boca Raton Heart Ball. Everyone who knows me will tell you that my philosophy has always been Life Better®, whether it is in my personal or professional endeavors. As the Chair of this year’s Heart Ball I am sticking to my vision of changing people’s lives and taking on the No. 1 and No.3 killers of American men and women– heart disease and stroke!
Even more exciting is that this year’s 28th Annual Boca Raton Heart Ball, held on January 30, 2010, will be honoring boxing promoter Don King as our “Health Heavyweight Champion and Honoree” for his promotion of exercise as a life long activity. The evening will be filled with new energy and exhilaration and is sure to be a knock-out that you will not forget!
In 1998, the American Heart Association (AHA) set an impact goal to reduce coronary heart disease and stroke by 25 percent by 2010. I am proud to announce that thanks to funding for research and education, the AHA achieved this goal in 2008. Coronary heart disease has been reduced by 30.7 percent and stroke by 29.2 percent! Unfortunately, the major risk factors for heart disease and stroke have not seen the same decline, especially in relation to childhood obesity rates and inactivity. For the AHA, this means that there is still a lot of work to do.
Please help us continue the fight against American’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers – heart disease and stroke. We ask that you be among our esteemed supporters for the 2010 Boca Raton Heart Ball. If you have any questions please feel free to call Gala Director, Trisha Bernauer, at (561) 697-6621. Thank you for your consideration of supporting my efforts on behalf of the American Heart Association.
With heartfelt thanks,
Nicole Oden, Chair
